The HOPE of CHRIST and HIS RESURRECTION

Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God entered the human history through His miraculous incarnation. He became its very center, its heart and its dominant figure moreover, the head of the Church as “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth.” {Jh 1:14} “And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.” {Eph 1:22,23}

He is the gift of God’s love for the salvation of man and the entire world, that is all mankind, in all times and places on this globe, “For God so loved the world so that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life….” {Jh 3:16,17}

Jesus Christ the Messiah fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies, affirmed the law and the Ten Commandments. {Matt 5:17-20} He gave the Beatitudes {Matt 5:3-10} and the greatest commandments of love. {Matt 5:44; Lu 10:27; Jh 15:12, 13} He taught the Lord’s Prayer {Matt 6:9-13} and stated the Golden Rule. {Matt 7:2} He promised to prepare a place with Him for the believers, “When I go I will prepare a place for you …,that where I am you will be also.” {Jh 14:3} The salvation of Jesus Christ is not limited to one nation, one race or one period. His saving work provides salvation and reconciliation with God for overall times and places. His cross reveals His devotion to all even to the enemies and criminals.

Science and technology are great, creative and marvelous but they could not solve the matter of sin and human evil. They did not bring hope to a hopeless world. They did not help to deal with threat and danger caused by Satan. They have no solution for the human tears and sufferings. Just Christ through His crucifixion, resurrection and the light of His empty tomb could be the answer to Man’s and the World’s problems and worries. Jesus announced, “I am the way, the truth and the life…” {Jh 14:6} and “I tell you the truth, a time is coming and has come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live”.{Jh 5:25} The dead in sin are granted to live spiritually if they listen to the voice of Jesus Christ and come near to Him. Jesus Christ is alive today, everyday and forever. He raises all those in discourage, despair and wretched existence to life, comfort, hope and happiness. God “even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive with Christ…” {Eph 2: 5,6}

Through the grace of the cross and resurrection of Christ, the believers have a new life in Him; they have His eternal light, joyful salvation and heavenly inheritance. Christ will never leave the faithful alone. He promised saying “…and surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age.” {Matt 28”20} Through the resurrection, the believers have shining hope. This hope, which binds them to God, their utmost purpose. In this hope, they find the full perspective and the open way to their glorious future. “In hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began.” {Titus 1:2} Through the cross and resurrection we see God in Christ holding the World to Himself. This is the greatest action and victory. It is the World’s real direction and the richness and splendor of life.

The message of resurrection is the central doctrine of whole The Holy Bible. The mortal humans who die are privileged to have the hope of their resurrection. Christ informed that “… unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.” {Jh 12:24} In addition, Paul said, “… Death is swallowed up in victory.” {1 Cor 15:51-54} and said, “… The dead in Christ shall rise first…” {1 Thess 4:14-17}

The crucifixion and resurrection form two of the most fundamental historical events and the very heart of Christianity. They are the ground and motive of the hope of immortality, eternal joy and everlasting life. Paul emphasized that “If Christ has not been raised…. You are still in your sins… But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.” {1 Cor 15:14-20} Through the crucifixion and resurrection, Christ conquered the powers of darkness, sin and death. Without them, there is no Christianity; consequently, there is no hope for salvation, joy and everlasting life. The real hope of Mankind lies in Jesus Christ “…who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light…” {2 Tim 1:10} and in His Resurrection which leads “to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade reserved in Heaven for you.” {1Pet 1:4} This hope is for all who desire life. In addition, it is the basis and the groundwork of their faith.

Peter prayed, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” {1Pet 1:3} Christ declared to the World “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” {Jh 11:25}
